Posts of the days.....

Per:Lauzardo f canesports

That's all you can ask. Give it all, give it all you got. Have the opportunity to not leave anything undone, nothing left behind, no stone unturned. That's what Miami did this weekend. All the important kids walked away from Miami this weekend completely impressed. Problem is most kids walk into a final weekend already leaning in a direction. They may not say so, but after months of the recruiting process, and only 3-4 days left, you KNOW, or at least you THINK you know. Kids done't walk into the final weekend, without a clue. They all had a clue. And a lean. So to get all these grade A kids speaking as positively as they have about their visit is really encouraging. HEY THE BOTTOM LINE IS THE BOTTOM LINE. I know that. Who signs on Wednesday is the bottom line here. But, I am VERY PROUD of the staff, the players, and the admin for doing EVERYTHING they possibly could to turn some of these kids this weekend. They shot their load. Now we can only hope it was enough.

I'm going to say...

1) Administration - just seems to me most of the big time schools put more of an emphasis on football/athletics, but it doesn't seem to have the same importance to miami. It may be, it's just my perception.

2) Small alumni base - it's all about the benjamins, and miami doesn't have enough alumni to truly compete with the Texas, UFs, tOSUs, etc. These schools lose coordinators, and then can buy the next best thing. Miami has to dig deeper into the coaching pool to find the "might" be the next big thing.

3) Facilities - I know there have been upgrades, but if you've seen some of these other state school's facilities, miami is just behind, and there's not much miami can do because it takes major fund raising efforts (due to #2), whereas state schools can just upgrade every 2 yrs or so as needed.

4) Stadium - This isn't really miami's fault per se. It just is, what it is. Most of the schools mentioned above have on campus stadiums and have 30k+ students on campus. Most alumni probably reside within the state and can make a 2-3 hour commute. Miami doesn't have either of these luxuries and relies heavily on the community to buy up tickets. Which sadly doesn't happen very often.

pubah, your #2 issue leads to #1 and #3.

None of those big state universities President's give a lick about the football team, but thanks to millions of dollars from alumni and boosters...it doesn't matter, and all the football program asks is to be left alone by the school.

I can give an example of UConn. They decided to go D-1 football in 2000, and for that they wanted a football stadium, an indoor training facility, new practice fields and football complex. President Austin could give a damn about that beyond doing his photo ops. He cared so, so much more about UConn 2000 and UConn 21st Century (two massive state funded academic building initiatives) and increasing the quality of the faculty and increasing the admission standards of the school. Well, the football team and fans didn't cry that the school cared more about funding its academic side, because the state built them a stadium in Hartford and it sells out, they called up
onealumni/booster who donated the cash needed to build the indoor training facility, and called another to lead the football complex cash.

At Miami, for whatever reason (but probably mostly because the value of UM degree means nothing to non-alumni which most of the fans are) their fans want academic money to fund the football team as if that is the main reasons the school exists OR that means the administration doesn't care about the football team.

Which oddly enough this Shalala administration cares so much more then any Foote administration, who would've taken down the program if given the chance.

Therefore, for me the lack of fan support is Miami's biggest issue. Nothing short of remarkable that Miami (i) can't grow its fanbase and (ii) has accomplished what it has and not disappeared from college football yet.
