Post of the Day.....

per:Zcanes78 f. canesport

Wow an opposing QB will now have to make a decision in 2-3 seconds instead of 4 or 5 sometimes even longer...HUGE Difference!!!

Randy can play his defense now and be effective. Last seasons defense was by far the best defense since Randy has been the HC and it will be better next year. 9-10 Starters return and now you have a D-Line that can be taught the proper technique. Combine that with their talent and this Defense will look a lot better. No wodner Bailey wanted to come back...can you imagine this guy with good hands and some moves to use. Top 10 Draft pick IMO if he remains healthy.

INT's will magically grow due to the lack of time a QB will have. Vernon and Bailey are absolute freaks. Vernon even more so IMO because he is a big 250-255 DE that is Abnormaly quick and strong. Somemes Bailey lacks quickness but that can change next year and he will have to be double teamed. Vernon is a legend among high school football players. Nobody wanted to go against him in camps before he got hurt because he embarassed everyone. Him and Mike James were the best True freshman last season with McGee, Porter, and Ray Ray rounding the top 5. Not in that order but Vernon and Mike were the most productive. Vernon has the biggest ability to be a game changer. He doesn't have nay flaws. He just needs to get to college level strength and endurance which will happen this offseason. Might only be here 3 years, especially with Petri teaching him. You can double team Vernon or Bailey but not both, one of them is going to get to the QB.

The corners can play up more, the Safeties can move up a little and bite on the shorter routes since there will be less time. The O-line will have to focus on the D-line more which frees up the LB's.

People who understand football know what I am talking about. Defense in today's game with the rules and stuff will get toasted if they give a decent QB time to throw. We will win the Turnover battle if we get to the QB and in the backfield 1-2 seconds faster. Randy's Defense will look really improved next year and we don't have to worry about recruiting because great play recruits itself. Your not going to have to convince a kid too much if you are producing NFL draft picks every year which Bailey will be. Ojomo and Robinson will have a really good chance after that wih their talent. And Vernon will be a first rounder if no serious injuries occur, trust me on that. A fast, big, strong DE that can produce will always have scouts salivating and he produced last year at a position True freshman simply are not suppose to produce at.

Forston, Regis, Porter all look very promising. Forston less than the other two but his ceiling is higher and could explode over the next year or 2.

Guys like Dyron Dye, Luther Robinson benefit greatly from this hire. I truly believe as long as Petri is here at least 1 D-lineman from the U each year will go in the top 3 rounds of the draft. Bailey has locked that up and Vernon is way ahead of the curve. All of those other guys have a really god shot as well and then you look at maybe EGO and the Upside of Perry and you are beside yourself. Perry needs weight and strength, those two things you can teach. You can't teach a 6'6 DE frame with almost a 7 foot wingspan haha!!!

Petri is a proven coach, gets it done time and time again! Guaranteed to be an improvement over the DL teaching from the past couple of seasons. An excellent move. The Dline improves the entire Defense without question. I am not overhyping the guy, the DL was below average at best last year and we still had a decnt defense. This guy can take the DL from below average to great with his teaching and the young talent Forston, Vernon, Regis, Robinson, Ojomo (back from injury), and Porter coming to help Bailey. Wow this will be a tough team to beat.

Increase our INT's, Jacory lowers his INT's and BOOM!!! You have at a minimum a top 15 team again and a very solid base to work off of. Bringing in Ken Dorsey to learn under Whip would be a good idea to experiment with.

My dream staff if Whip has to leave after next season:

HC- Shannon
OC/WR's- A. Hill (learning a lot from Whip)
QB's- Ken Dorsey
OL- Stoutland
TE/ST- Pannunzio
DL- Petri
LB's- Barrow/Lovett
DB's- W. Martinez
DC- Lovett

Recruiting Coordinator- Barrow or Martinez

Both can recruit or share duies. If Lovett helps Barrow with LB's then Barrow can really focus on recruiting and won't be overwhelmed. Would be a very solid staff. If they are keeping Mcgriff than that's ok but I think Willie would be an upgrade. Very stable coaching staff if you ask me. Aubrey would need to work with the WR's and possibly have a GA on his hip learning everything Aubrey knows so he can teach the WR's or you can get Mark Duper I guess to be a grad asst. and work his way up if Hill leaves for another job or something. Lots of options but I feel our staff is really close to being very good!

Another Henderson tidbit: His parents have every intention of moving with him to college. I spoke with his father Sean Henderson this morning and his response to the possibility of living in South Florida: "It's great, it's Miami, South Beach. We live in Minnesota, it's nine degrees right now and feels like 20 below (zero). I'm sure, it's 70 there.

Call me a cynic, but in college recruiting speach, parents moving with the player means nice cushy job and house near the school. Not the Miami way. I don't think he's coming.
his parents could be rich I guess.

That or they could have skills that would let them pick up and leave and find new jobs. Or they've been saving for this for some time and have a stash.
It is interesting though.
OTOH, he's talking about Miami with some nice words. haha
This is going to be very, very interesting. hahaha

Believe me.....I HATE POSTING THIS BUT...

IT MUST BE SAID.

What I am seeing is a lot of very large egos being told they don't know what the heck they are talking about. What I see is people who have convinced themselves that they understand what the needs of our team are like they are a coach. This is an ego problem.

I, like everyone else likes to do this for fun. That is why these discussion boards exist but I think some just take it way too far. We take it so seriously. Don't get all upside down overy a recruiting class. Any top 20 class is probably good but just because it is a top 10-20 class, that doesn't mean that they will win. Sometimes the aren't the players we need...but they are the players we WANT.

This is a class based on what our coaches percieve we NEED. The difference is there isn't any trust with our coaches with some of us fans. That, I am okay with but not trusting our coaches is one thing. To operate under the assumption that YOU KNOW MORE is something that is way out there for me.

Think about this. Something Jimmy Johnson mentioned on his interview yesterday. To paraphrase as best I can....He said "These are kids that play in the area. Don't you think that the ooaches in this area know more than the ones outside the area about who can play at Miami?" They see these kids and know their coaches. They know more than anyone about local kids.

To add to that, they have proven themselves at previous jobs to earn at least some respect. Don't take it so personally that they may not agree with YOU. Don't let your own ego get in the way. If they don't think Chandler can help us, and you do then let's just give them the benifit of the doubt because it is their funeral if they don't win. We expect excellence from these coaches on and off the field....but we can't micromanage every little thing they do or believe every erroneous article as some self fulfilling prophecy you have about our coaches. They are all qualified for the opportunity at least.

Now, before I get called what I am usually called here. A Shannon homer or a rah rah guy I look at this very pragmaticly. I view this with great perspective. This is a rebuild. Plain and simple but if the job isn't done by Jacorys senior year then I will be the first to call for another coach....but he has earned a fair shot.

Jimmy Johnson Comments On Randy and Documentary
Reply

I am so glad that Jimmy talked graduation rates back in the day. I see way too many times where so called cane fans have no idea of what being a cane is. They think it is just what the media tells them it is. Believe everything they read.

Funny thing is Jimmy said he cracked up when Randall Hill shot those guns......lmao. We all know what Jimmy thinks about star ratings too..

Loaf: here is the rule that allows you to swap out a football scholarship for an academic scholarship:

15.5.1.2.2 Exception Receipt of Institutional Academic Aid Only. In football or basketball, a student-athlete who was recruited by the awarding institution and whose only source of institutional financial aid is academic aid based solely on the recipient’s academic record at the certifying institution, awarded independently of athletics interests and in amounts consistent with the pattern of all such awards made by the institution, may compete without counting in the institution’s financial aid team limits, provided he or she has completed at least one academic year of full-time enrollment at the certifying institution and has achieved a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.300 (on a 4.000 scale) at the certifying institution.

For Todd Chandler, it was almost too good to be true. The 6-foot, 290-pound defensive tackle, who won a national championship at Miami Northwestern as a sophomore, committed to his hometown team, the Miami Hurricanes, as a junior.

Chandler
Tom Hauck for ESPN.comUSF coach Skip Holtz will certainly work to retain the commitment of Todd Chandler.

Chandler planned to join former Northwestern teammates and current Hurricanes standouts Marcus Forston and Sean Spence.

"It was really like a dream come true," Chandler said. "It was a chance to play with Marcus, Sean and my other old teammates from Northwestern."

For Chandler, it was also an opportunity to play for the team that inspired him to first try football.

"I grew up watching Miami and I always wanted to be a Cane," Chandler added. "They got me into football, and when I committed, all I could think about was being able to have the opportunity there to inspire other young football players the way that program inspired me."

As Chandler went through his senior season, something changed. He didn't hear from the Miami coaches as frequently. He still was a regular visitor at practices, but he felt more like an outsider.

A conversation with Hurricanes secondary coach Wesley McGriff left the player more uncertain about his standing with the program and why the communication had become strained.

"I was confused," said Chandler, the No. 7 DT and No. 67 overall player in the ESPNU 150. "The coaches were saying everything was good, but something was different. They were no longer acting like a team that was interested."

Chandler was familiar enough with the process through other area recruits to know that programs can drop verbal commitments at the worst time, leaving them with few options.

"I didn't understand it, and I still don't," said Miami Northwestern assistant coach Terrance Craig. "Todd did everything Miami asked him to do, and they just hung him out to dry."

NCAA rules prohibit coaches from commenting on individual recruits until that player has signed a letter of intent with the school.

Rather than take the risk with a commitment he was feeling uneasy about, Chandler took his future into his own hands.

First, he switched commitments from Miami and gave a "soft" verbal to South Florida with visits planned to other schools like Louisville and Colorado State.

"Coach [Jim] Leavitt made me feel like I was wanted," Chandler added. "They were going after me pretty hard."

Three weeks later, Leavitt was fired.

Chandler was at square one again.

NFLDraft Scout.com Rankings of Miami Seniors

According to NFLDraftscout.com the following are the current projected ratings of our Seniors BEFORE the combines and the Senior Bowl.

I think Jimmy Graham, Dedrrick Epps, and Sam Shields will all move up after the combines and be drafted. Any team that drafts Graham or Epps are drafting future all stars.

Shields' speed will open eyes. He can tune up for the combine and do a lot better than his 4.45. 40. say 4.34 - 4..37. He's done it before.. Good special team player plus receive consideration of having only played CB one year.
.
I hope Moncur and Gordon are granted the extra year they requested. Both can produce better than they have so far. Especially Moncur
